Microsoft is celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the Windows Insider Program, and as part of the celebration, it’s offering two new custom wallpapers for users, which you can download and set on any Windows 11 or 10 computer.
The two wallpapers (light and dark) have a water-green color scheme, and they showcase many iconic elements going back in time to Windows 95, including the now retro design of the Start logo, the “Display Properties,” “Date,” and “Enter Password” dialogs. Some elements that go through Windows XP, Windows 10, and Windows 11, and even Clippy made it into the image.
You can download these wallpapers directly from Microsoft:
The download includes one Zip file for each set of wallpaper, depending on whether you’re downloading the light or dark version. Once you download the files, you have to extract the images from the Zip file, then open Settings > Personalization > Background, select the “Picture” option in the “Personalize your background” setting, and then click the “Browse Photos” button to select the image you want to set as a desktop background. You can use these instructions if you don’t have an activated version of Windows 11.
If you choose to download the dark mode variant of the wallpaper, you can enable the dark mode on Windows 11 with these instructions for a better experience.
You can also try downloading the Windows 365 default wallpapers, the colorful Bloom wallpapers available on Surface Laptop 5, or the two new default wallpapers to the Windows Server 2025 desktop.
