If you’re an Android user, the Instagram team is now letting you join the beta program of Threads to get early access to new features and improvements of the app, and in this guide, you will learn how.

In only a few short days, Threads, the new microblogging platform from Meta and developed by the Instagram team, has reached the 100 million user mark, and while the new Twitter rival is off to a good start, the platform still needs many features. However, if you use an Android phone, you can now sign up for the official beta program to be among the first people to get your hands on new features and improvements coming to the platform.

The only caveat is that using an early preview of the app has its stability risks that negatively affect the experience, but if you encounter any problems, you can always opt out of the program.

This guide will teach you the easy steps to join the Threads by Instagram beta program.

Join Threads app beta program on Android

To join the official beta program of Threads on Android, use these steps:

  1. Open Threads beta program page.

  2. Click the Become a Tester button.

  3. Sign in with your Google account associated with your Android phone.

  4. Confirm subscription to the program.

Once you complete the steps, you will receive Threads updates from the beta program with early access to new features, changes, and improvements. You can also use these instructions to install the Threads Android app on Windows 11.

If the preview version of the Threads app is causing issues or you want the stable version again, you can use the “Leave the program” button on the program’s page to opt-out.

As per the new features, Meta has confirmed a number of features that the Instagram team is working on for the app, including hashtags, direct messages, chronological order sorting, and fediverse support.

The company is also working on a feed view that only includes the accounts you follow, search and editing improvements, support for multiple accounts, thread translation, and more.

Of course, these new features are in addition to other features that the company plans to bring to the platform, such as support for ActivityPub, which is the decentralized social networking protocol that makes it possible to transfer your information to another host and more.
