How to change X (Twitter) theme from dark to light mode on web

  • To switch X color mode to light, open More > Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display & languages > Display and choose the “Default” option.

On X (formerly Twitter), the dark color mode is the default theme, but you can change it to the light mode even though the option has been removed from the main page. You just need to know where to find the settings.

Since the social media platform changed ownership, it has undergone many changes, including changing its name from “Twitter” to “X.” Many features have been removed, and many others have been implemented, and I won’t get into the internal company changes.

One of these changes was dropping the “light mode” as the default theme. Although it’s been a while since the announcement, the light mode hasn’t changed when using the platform on Chrome or Edge on my main Windows 11 computer, but recently, I’ve logged in from another device, and I noticed that the default theme was the “dark mode,” and I couldn’t find the option to change modes from the main page until I asked around, and I found out that the option buried within the accessibility settings.

In this guide, I will explain the steps to change the color mode of the web version of X.

Change theme color modes on X to light

To change the theme color of X on the web, use these steps:

  1. Open X on the web.

  2. Sign in to your account (if applicable).

  3. Click on More from the left page.

  4. Click on Settings and privacy.

  5. Click the “Accessibility, display & languages” settings.

  6. Click on Display.

  7. Choose the Default option under the “Background” section.

    X enable light color theme

Once you complete the steps, the web version of X (Twitter) will revert to the light color scheme.

On the “Display” settings, you can also make the font size smaller or larger and change the default blue color scheme to other colors.

It’s important to note that (at least) the Android app still allows you to access the color mode settings from the profile menu.

If you use X, do you use it in dark or light mode? Let me know in the comments.
