  • Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will be merged together
  • The new tiers of PlayStation Plus will offer access to over 700 games including PS, PS2, PS3, PSP games
  • Sony is planning to expand cloud streaming access to more regions

Sony’s much-anticipated PlayStation Plus tier subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, is now official. Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will be merged together, and the service will come with a library of games and cloud gaming access. While it was considered to be Xbox Game Pass competitor, PlayStation Plus isn’t exactly the same as Game Pass. For instance, PlayStation Plus will not offer day-one access to first-party games, similar to Xbox Game Pass. That being said, PlayStation has an impressive collection of exclusives that will be part of the new service. The new PlayStation Plus tiers are explained below:

PlayStation Plus Essential

PlayStation Plus Essential is basically the same as the current PlayStation Plus subscription that offers two monthly games, cloud storage for game save files, exclusive discounts, and online multiplayer access. The price of PlayStation Plus Essential in India will be the same as the existing PlayStation Plus subscription.

PlayStation Plus Essential India price

  • 1 month – Rs 499
  • 3 months – Rs 1,199
  • 12 months – Rs 2,999

PlayStation Plus Extra

PlayStation Plus Extra will offer all the benefits of Essential along with up to 400 downloadable PS4 and PS5 games. Since this tier has additional benefits over Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra will be priced comparatively higher. The official Indian pricing for PlayStation Plus Extra isn’t announced yet, but the speculated pricing is out. Gaming industry insider Rishi Alwani has revealed the Indian pricing for PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium through retail sources, which aren’t confirmed by Sony yet.

PlayStation Plus Extra India price (expected)

  • 1 month – Rs 800
  • 3 months – Rs 2,000
  • 12 months – Rs 5,000

PlayStation Plus Premium

PlayStation Plus Premium provides all the benefits of Essential and Extra tiers as well as up to 340 additional games and time-limited game trials. The 340 games will include PS3 games via cloud streaming and PlayStation, PS2, PS4, and PSP games that will be available to download and stream. Cloud streaming will be available in regions where PS Now is currently available, which unfortunately doesn’t include India. However, Sony will also offer PlayStation Plus Deluxe for select markets that don’t have access to cloud gaming.

PlayStation Plus Premium India price (expected)

  • 1 month – Rs 1,000
  • 3 months – Rs 2,500
  • 12 months – Rs 6,000

PlayStation Plus Deluxe

PlayStation Plus Deluxe will be an alternative to PlayStation Plus Premium in regions that don’t have PS Now. PlayStation Plus Deluxe tier will come with downloadable PlayStation, PS2, and PSP games, time-limited game trials, as well as benefits from Essential and Extra tiers. Although the exact pricing of PlayStation Plus Deluxe isn’t revealed yet, Sony has said that it will be “offered at a lower price compared to Premium.”
