  • Microsoft brings the Photos app for Windows 11 to Windows 10.
  • The app will update automatically and replace the legacy version.
  • The new Photos is virtually the same as the one for Windows 11, but some features are missing.

The Photos app that Microsoft has designed for Windows 11 is now available for Windows 10. The new version of the app is available as an automatic update from the Microsoft Store.

The Photos app for Windows 10 is virtually the same as the version for Windows 11. The app brings a redesigned interface that makes it easy to view, find, and manage pictures. You will notice that the navigation pane is now on the left side, where you can access your photos from OneDrive and folder locations stored locally.

The new version of Photos for Windows 10 also offers a canvas with controls to sort, filter, and change the size of thumbnail previews (with more options than the legacy app), which now uses rounded corners.

At the top, you will find a search feature similar to the one in the Microsoft Store app. The Settings page has also been redesigned with a new organization, but there are at least two settings missing for the Windows 10 version, including support for iCloud Photos and the option to get HEVC video extensions.

When opening an image, you still have access to the same editing features as the legacy version of the app, but the image opens in a separate window.

Since the Photos app no longer offers video editing capabilities, you will need to download the Clipchamp app to create and share videos.

The app is gradually rolling out to users, but you can always use the Microsoft Store app to check for updates and download the new Photos version on Windows 10.
