Windows 11 build 22631.2048 (KB5028247) rolls out in Beta Channel

  • Windows 11 22H2 receives builds 22621.2048 and 22631.2048 (KB5028247) in the Beta Channel.
  • This update introduces the new Gallery view on File Explorer.
  • It changes the version number from 22H2 to 23H2 in the Settings app.
  • The update delivers a slew of fixes and improvements.

Windows 11 build 22631.2048 (KB5028247) is now rolling out with new features enabled by default, and the preview build 22621.2048 (KB5028247) with features turned off by default for computers enrolled in the Beta Channel.

Build 22631.2048 for Windows 11, according to the official changes, rolls out a preview of the version of File Explorer that integrates the “Gallery” page to make it easier to access your photos locally stored on your computer or OneDrive.

The new page has been optimized to display your recently taken photos. If you have OneDrive Camera Roll Backup set up on your mobile device, the pictures will show up automatically. You can choose which folders are shown on this page with the “Collection” setting. You can also add subfolders of existing sources to filter to a subset of your content, such as desktop backgrounds and SD card imports.

You will also find an “Add Phone Photos” feature that allows you to connect your phone to your computer to access images from the Gallery view. And as part of the File Explorer changes, you can now tear out and merge tabs.

Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, build 22631.2048 will appear as version 23H2 on the “About” page of the Settings app, indicating that the next feature update is almost complete.

Finally, Microsoft continues testing the ability to end tasks when right-clicking an app from the Taskbar, and it’s moving the “For Developers” settings page from Settings > Privacy & security to now be under Settings > System.

Windows 11 build 22621.2048 and 22631.2048 fixes

This rollout also brings a bunch of fixes and improvements for both builds:

  • Taskbar: Fixed an issue which could cause the taskbar to hang during initialization and not complete loading.
  • File Explorer: Fixed an issue which could lead to explorer.exe crashes when opening a folder containing .WEBP files, and addressed an issue where File Explorer might hang when browsing network shares.
  • Notifications: Fixed an issue where you might unexpectedly see a suggestion to turn off notifications that you regularly interacted with.

Also, the Microsoft Store app is getting an update that brings a new AI Hub that promotes the best AI experiences built by the developer community and Microsoft.

Install build 22631.2048
